RODNEY O & JOE COOLEY - U DON’T HERE ME THO’ (STREET MIX)

A few weeks ago some dude started on me at a club for no reason. So like a real man… erm… instead of retailiating I went home and listened to aggressive gangsta rap. Like most of Joe Cooley and Rodney O’s material this was produced with the Egyptian Lover.

Night train to nowhere

04 Sep 2008

Brian Auger’s a jazz and blues Hammond B3 player who played with every whorey rockstar of the 60s. Notably his band the Trinity had a hit with This Wheel’s On Fire which later became the theme to the TV series Absolutely Fabulous. In the early 80s he had fun with some Italians with synthesizers and made this. I found it on Picnic Land – thanks P – and according to iTunes I’ve played this track more than any other recently.

Master slave

Gameboy

I found Puss in 2002 in Stockholm at a contemporary arts festival featuring too many Strokes and White Stripes wannabes. Everybody ran a mile when they played. Obviously I loved it – even more then because the whole LSDJ scene was really fresh.

A few years later they came to London and played Lektrolab at the ICA and covered Reel 2 Real’s I Like To Move It. Along with David Banner at the Old Blue Last and DJ Assault playing with DJ Funk at TDK it is one my highlights from this decade! The band were a couple and I think it split when they did. I believe the guy’s a successful techno producer now.

Breaker’s revenge

03 Sep 2008

What happened? In the early 80s Arthur Baker was defining electro, hip hop and freestyle. This decade he opened a few lame bars, remixed electroclash group W.I.T and put on parties with Wade Crescent. He’s still my hero though.

Breakdance

MORODER MONDAY

I was really good when I played the the Mustache Bar doing house, disco and freestyle but I just couldn’t fake enthusiasm for anything around 140bpm at East Village last night. I’m looking forward to searching for some new banging tracks and coming back fresh.

Back to old music – I played this at the Mustache – it’s my current favourite.
IRENE CARA – BREAKDANCE
but I mixed it with
TITTSWORTH – BROKE ASS NIGGA (DJ ASSAULT REMIX)
and it sounded great!
